Welcome to United Way of Monroe
County
At United Way, our mission is to improve
people's lives.
Working with 26 certified
member agencies and other partners, United Way
ensures that Monroe County residents have the building
blocks for opportunity --
- the essentials (access to food,
housing, health care, and emergency services),
- education for life and career, and
- earnings that allow people of all
ages and abilities to be self-sufficient.
We have special programs that
help us meet these objectives.
Born Learning will help us
ensure that children in our community enter school ready to
learn... just like our partners in the
Workforce Preparation Network are ensuring they
will leave school ready to earn.
Creating opportunities is a good reason
for everyone in this community to Live United... to give,
advocate and volunteer to help the causes you care about. When you
Take Action, you Create Opportunity.
Tell us how YOU Live United... and you might win a
Live United t-shirt like Jerry and Jamie are wearing!
Enjoy our site
and please call me at 334-8370 if you'd like to get involved
improving people's lives.
- Thanks!

Impact Facts:
In 2007, your donation ensured
that people in need saw opportunity:
- More than 4,000 area youth
participated in after-school programs, day care, mentoring,
therapy, and other organized activities. Over 50% of these
youth live in low-income households.
- More than 274,000 meals were
given to local residents experiencing hunger... about 40%
went to children and 27% to seniors.
- 12,766 breakfasts were
delivered to children in six low-income neighborhoods and
three youth-serving programs.
- Over 350 families were kept
from homelessness because they received help with rent,
utilities, and legal assistance.
- 416 adults with disabilities
were assisted in finding affordable housing, enabling them
to live safely and participate in community activities.
- More than 7,500 low-income
families were able to maintain their health through free or
low-cost medical care.
- 568 residents with
disabilities or chronic illnesses were provided emergency
response systems, allowing them to live independently at
home.
- 5,034 nights of emergency
shelter were provided to women and children in the aftermath
of traumatic violence.
- 40 individuals and families
received emergency food, shelter, and supplies to help them
recover from residential fires.
- Disaster response and
preparedness was taught to 200 community
members.
Take Action. Create
Opportunity.
